SUMMARY
Research question:
Which leadership behavior influences em­
ployees’ perception of expected extended availability and increases
employees’ willingness to be available outside of work?
Methodology:
Experiment with videos of transformational and
transactional leadership
Practical implications:
Inconspicuous signals concerning
supervisor’s expectations on availability requirements are inter­
preted quickly. For transactional leadership, but also for trans-
formational leadership, it seems advisable to explicitly clarify
expectations regarding availability for work during leisure time.
