MIPIM AWARDS
W
hether or not investor favorites will
be among the 44 projects from 22
countries is a different question.
Although economic efficiency is indeed
examined in the evaluations, it is not men-
tioned in the short descriptions. Several
nominations such as a museum (Museum
of Tomorrow in Rio), a library (Beyazit Li-
brary in Istanbul), a power plant (Värtan
Bioenergy CHP-plant in Stockholm), hos-
pitals and even an urban park (Városliget in
Budapest) are not directly available to the
real estate market. But they could improve
the social and economic environment.This
year’s jury chairman, John Forrester, CEO
EMEA at Cushman & Wakefield, believes
this requirement was met by many of the
submissions from all over the world from
Islamabad to Sao Paulo.
TWO GERMAN FINALISTS
One of the high-
lights of MIPIM, the annual leading trade
fair in the real estate industry in Cannes,
is the MIPIM Awards ceremony. This
time the eleven-member jury selected
four finalists in each of the eleven catego-
ries from 214 projects submitted from 26
countries. Entries could be submitted for a
fee of EUR 875 in addition to the binding
registration as trade fair visitor and the
preparation of presentations of the build-
ings. If a project sponsor goes to all this
trouble then he must be fairly confident
to be among the final four. Siemens was

The MIPIM Awards 2017
Every year, the MIPIM Awards must live up to its reputation
of setting quality standards valid worldwide for current
real estate trends. The nominations for the 2017 awards
are extending this promise to include livable locations with
social and ecological responsibility thanks to outstanding
architectural design.
also confident and rightly so it turns out in
light of the excellent technical and spatial
qualities of the new building for the Group
headquarters in Munich. Siemens is not
only nominated as the best office building
but also as an “innovative green building”.
According to the criteria for submission,
this means having a positive influence on
the lifecycle of the buildings (improving
the lifecycle of the buildings to positively
shape the future). With the design by the
Danish architecture firm Hennig Larsen,
the building owner is setting standards in
terms of construction engineering and
energy technology, as well as for a “smart
building” that controls itself through data
from 30,000 measurement points in the
building – Siemens products, of course.
Certificates according to DGNB Plati-
num and LEED Platinumwere obligatory.
The integration of historic Palais Ludwig
into the new building and the new public
“Siemens-Passage” from the city center to
the museum district were not mentioned
in the description of the building for the
award. The interweaving with the urban
space and respect for existing historic
buildings play an increasingly important
role here as it does in a series of other nom-
inations even in addition to the categories
of “refurbished buildings” and “urban re-
generation”.
The secondGerman project among the
finalists is the residential district “Li01”
Upper: Among the finalists is
the district “Li01” in Berlin-Frie-
drichshain in the category of
Residential Buildings.
Lower: The Siemens Group head-
quarters in Munich is nominated
as the best office building and
as an innovative green building.
