SUMMARY Research question: How could we design an interior that fosters fulfilling and inspiring work? Methodology: We derive creativity-promoting interior principles from the literature and, based on self-determination theory, ex- plain why interior design should be participatory. In a case study we describe the creation of Denkraum Braunschweig. Practical implications: Organizations that want to establish a creative and motivating work environment should not plan crea- tive spaces on the drawing board – but involve their employees.
