Methodology: OLS regressions based on survey data from 85 British companies. Practical implications: Contrary to the exclusive dualism of exploration and exploitation that dominates the literature, this study shows that internal efficiency (cost and process optimization) strengthens the positive relationship between CE and explorative innovation.
